Released in 1983, the Atari 800XL was part of the Atari 8-bit personal computer series.
Although not technically a console, it was widely used for gaming due to its compatibility with video game cartridges, cassettes, and floppy disks.
It used a cassette drive as well as a 5-inch SS (Single Side) floppy drive.
It had a standard keyboard, various connection ports and a large number of games, applications, graphics and multimedia.
It featured a 256-color palette and a BASIC interpreter.
For peripherals such as tape drives, floppy drives, printers, and modems, it had a Serial I/O (SIO) port and outputs for connecting to a TV via RF or composite video monitors.
Its clock frequency ran at 1.79 MHz.
Due to the Atari 800XL's 64 KB memory, it was considered the biggest competitor to the Commodore 64.
The Atari XL range has been among the best-selling computers since the early 1980s.
The uniqueness of the Atari 600XL/800XL is that they can display 256 colors on the screen and handle 4-voice sound thanks to the POKEY chip.
However, using 4 channels will limit the number of usable octaves.
