In Blood Omen, the player follows Kain, a slain noble newly resurrected as a vampire.

Features:

- Blood Omen is a 2D action-adventure game. The player controls the protagonist, Kain, from a top-down perspective.
- Gameplay is split between outdoor traversals and dungeon crawls, involving hack and slash combat, puzzle solving and hazard navigation.
- To advance the story, Kain must locate and defeat members of the Circle of Nine - who act as enemy bosses - and return his tokens to the Pillars of Nosgoth.
- Humans, animals and a variety of fantastical creatures inhabit the game world, which the player can usually choose to kill outright or alternatively injure in order to feed on their blood.
